Jonah's Birthday
It has been almost a week now since Jonah was born and we're still in shock that he is actually here and is so perfect. I went into the hospital Sunday night to start the induction. They broke my water at 6 pm on Monday to hurry things along. I was finally ready to start pushing at 10 pm. By 10:30 is was clear that Jonah was not tolerating it and the doctor could feel the umbilical cord around his neck. They took me back for a c-section but unfortunately my epidural wouldn't work so I had to be put under general anesthesia. I knew this meant that Matt wouldn't be allowed in the delivery room. I wasn't worried about Jonah because he couldn't have been in better hands with Cheryl and Sandy from NICU there to take care of him. I had some blood pressure issues and Jonah was a little depressed but we both came out fine. He was 7 lbs even and 20 inches long (50th percentile for weight and 75th for height). The night he was born and the next day are somewhat hazy to me because of the combination of pain medicine and exhaustion. Sandy had taken photos of Jonah and left them in recovery with me. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to have those once I woke up because I was able to see that he was okay since we were apart. Matt also left me a note telling me that I had missed Jonah's birthday, what his apgars were, and that he was in the nursery. Of course, I was way too loopy to read it at the time but now we can save it for Jonah. We were discharged from the hospital on Thursday but stayed with Tom & Joan because Jonah had to see the doctor on Friday morning. We just arrived home yesterday and are getting settled back in. The dogs are really glad to be home and we got to show Jonah his nursery. Today we gave him his first (sponge) bath at home. He screamed during it and acted dazed after. He is a very good little eater. On Friday the pediatrician clipped his frenulum because he was "tongue-tied." We go back to the pediatrician tomorrow to have his weight and bilirubin checked again. He is absolutely perfect and we are so in love. I knew Matt would be a great dad but he has blown me away. I wasn't counting on having to rely on him so much but also wasn't expecting the cesarean. He is an expert diaper changer at this point. If he had the ability to feed him I think he would. I have to finish up now because it has been about 3 hours since Jonah last ate so he'll be up any minute. Enjoy the pictures! There will be many more to come and hopefully they'll have his picture on the hospital website soon too (www.carle.org).

An end in sight!
I had my weekly appointment today. The nurse practitioner wanted me monitored for a bit because I had been having quite a few contractions (I had a long one while she was measuring Jonah which concerned her). Of course when they hooked me up to the monitor I didn't have a single one. Jonah also didn't move (it was his nap time) so they wanted to do an ultrasound to make sure he still looked good. On the ultrasound I could see him breathing (it is so weird to see the lungs completely full of fluid!). They said he looked good but the amniotic fluid was low. I go back on Friday to have another ultrasound and non-stress test. If the fluid level has stayed the same or gone up then I'll go in on Sunday night to be induced. So it looks like his birthday will be on Monday at the latest. So the next post will probably be about his birth!!! I have to work tomorrow so I'm scrambling to get everything in order just in case he decides that Friday is the day.

Still pregnant
Well my hoped for delivery date has come and gone now and I'm jealous of all those moms who had their babies on 8-8-08. I've been very uncomfortable all day today. I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight because I have to work tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow will be the day...

One day...
I was going through pictures on the computer and found pictures from our trip to Vegas last summer. I'm looking forward to the vacations we'll have as a family. Matt will be going on interviews this winter and Jonah and I are going to try to tag along to a few so we can get some traveling in too. I'm hanging around the house today cleaning/rearranging/keeping busy. I feel really good today so I'm hoping that is a good sign and means I'm in the "nesting" phase. The dogs are watching me run around here. Caleb's last CBC looked much better so he is weaning on his meds now. Hooray!!! We noticed a change in his behavior right away. He is still mischievous but I can leave the room for a couple minutes at a time and not be worried about what he is up to. I hope that he continues to do well and be pain free. We all went on a walk the other night (trying to strengthen the contractions) and he tired easily but loved it. The whole family will get back into shape together after Jonah arrives. Or at least that is the hope.

38 weeks
I just got back from the doctor and it doesn't look like we'll have a baby this week either. I'm only 1 cm dilated. I was hoping all my discomfort wasn't for nothing. They also said that I was measuring small but it was probably the position that he is in since he certainly doesn't feel small. I wish I had more exciting news but maybe next week.
